The Merri Creek is an ancient watercourse that runs through North Melbourne and joins the Yarra before heading out to sea. During the 1970s conservationists came together to clear some overgrown parts and rid others of toxic waste. Now it is a wonderful park with a walking/cycling path running for 20kms alongside, broadening sometimes into leafy reserves and dog parks. It has wild parts and tidy parts, sporty parts and artistic parts. I love the creek and almost always end up living within spitting distance of it when I'm in Melbourne.
